I'm a huge fan of PowerCore and have been using the PCI version in my studio for a long time. In fact it's so good that my hardware reverb units, some of which are fairly upmarket, rarely get used anymore. (...) The EQ and compressors are better than average with 24/7 being particular attractive to vintage gear fans, while having the EQ and dynamics from a Finalizer means that you can tackle most mastering jobs in the knowledge that you are working with competent tools.

Schon bei den Vorbereitungen wurde uns klar, dass der Test der PowerCore FireWire nicht den übllichen Zuschnitt haben würde, denn tatsächlich hat man es nicht mit einem einzigen Gerät zu tun, sondern mit einem zwar virtuellen, aber dennoch voll bestückten Geräteschrank, der neben den Standard-Plug-Ins weitere optionale Software-Pakete beinhaltet, die allesamt einer genauen Betrachtung nach Art unseres Hauses würdig wären.

Already during preparations, we became aware that the testing of the PowerCore FireWire would be of a different layout than normally, because you are not dealing with a single unit, but a virtual, yet still fully equipped instrument case, which beside the standard plug-ins also includes additional optional plug-ins that are all worthy of a closer examination.

It looks like TC has another terrific product for those looking to extend their recording systems without buying a new computer. The included effects are all top-notch, especially the analog compression and limiter emulations, and the reverbs are truly stellar also.

The FireWire Powercore offers a perfect solution to those needing more processing power on their PC or Mac. (...) The bundled plug-ins are very usable on the whole, and the jewels in this particular crown are the reverbs and the amp simulator. (...) I found the Powercore to be a perfect addition to my native system, integrating well with Logic. (...)The addition of these plug-ins with hardly any CPU cost is a feature I will find very hard to live without...

PowerCore FireWire is a brilliant concept and one that's superbly realised. The quality and performance of the effects on offer is outstanding, ranking them among the very best plug-ins currently available. FireWire not only gives laptop users access to this kind of quality, it provides a huge increase in the number of plug-ins available to all users. It ran a staggering 15 instances of Megaverb without a glitch and brought the dream of a comprehensive single-computer production system to life. It may seem to carry a hefty price tag, but the system actually represents very good value for anybody who has already found the limits of their existing host-based DAW and needs a way up to the next level.
